Beacon Connect: November 2025 Forum Summary and Next Steps
Thank you to all parents and carers who attended our first Beacon Connect Parent Forum on Tuesday 25 November. Your contributions were invaluable, and our staff found the discussions extremely useful. We hope you did too.
As promised, we have reviewed all feedback and agreed on a series of actions to improve communication, reporting and support for our students. Below is a summary of the key points raised and what we will do in response.
Reporting:
You said: Parents do not always understand what a standardised score means.
We will: Add links to explanations of key terminology, including standardised scores and indicators, in our reports and provide links for further details.
You said: Reports should show how close students are to the next grade and what is needed to move up.
We will: Add clear guidance to contact the teacher, and will trial a way of sharing meaningful next steps with parents.
You said: The assessment average should clearly show it is a percentage.
We will: Update headers to include the word “percentage” for clarity.
You said: Indicator grades need clearer presentation and less negative language.
We will: Change headings to “Year 11 Grade Indicator Range” and space grades (for example, 5-6-7) for better readability.
Key Stage 3 Assessment:
You said: Parents would like revision resources for all curriculum knowledge assessments available at the same time.
We will: Trial giving students access to all revision resources at the same time in our second series of CKAs in 2025/26.
You said: Parents would like more access to help their child catch up after absence by having easier access to curriculum resources.
We will: Build Key Stage 3 SharePoint sites with accessible curriculum resources which we will begin working on in June 2026.
You said: Parents would like advice on how to best support their children with assessments.
We will: Provide guidance for parents for our second series of CKAs in 2025/26.
You said: We would like both Key Stage 3 keep-up sessions with subject specialist teachers and a quiet place for my child to work after school.
We will: Review our current after-school support and see if we can offer a quiet place to complete homework in addition to keep-up sessions.
Attendance:
Attendance was discussed by a small group. As we recognise this is an important topic for many families, this will be reviewed again at a future Beacon Connect event to ensure wider input.
Feedback about Beacon Connect:
We were delighted to receive positive feedback following the event. Here are a few comments from parents and carers:
-
“Really enjoyed the evening and appreciate the ‘we are listening’ approach – feels very refreshing thank you!”
-
“I feel it worked well. It was nice to have the opportunity to discuss views as a parent.”
-
“Chance to listen and chat through with other parents and especially to interact with the staff.”
-
“Thank you. I realise how much effort everybody goes to ensuring they know the students individually.”
Save the date for our next Parent Forum:
Our next Beacon Connect Parent Forum will take place on Tuesday 17 March 2026. It will focus on two key topics, which we will confirm next term.
Thank you again for your feedback and continued support.
