Open Events and Induction
Transitioning from school to Sixth Form marks an important step towards greater independence and preparing for the future.
At Beacon Academy Sixth Form, we understand that students and parents will have plenty of questions about post-16 study, subject choices, enrichment opportunities and university, apprenticeship and career pathways. Our open events provide an opportunity to explore our dedicated Sixth Form Centre, meet our specialist subject leaders and Sixth Form team, and hear directly from current students about their experiences.
Sixth Form Open Event
Saturday 26 September 2026 | 10:30am - 1:30pm
Our Sixth Form Open Event offers prospective students and their families the opportunity to:
- Explore our dedicated Sixth Form Centre
- Meet subject leaders and discuss course options
- Speak with current Sixth Form students
- Learn about academic and pastoral support
- Find out more about enrichment, leadership and careers opportunities
- Understand the application process and entry requirements
At 11:30am, Mr Howarth will lead a Sixth Form presentation in the Hall, alongside a panel of current Sixth Form students, who will share their experiences of Sixth Form life and study.
Sixth Form Taster Sessions
Our Sixth Form Taster Sessions on Tuesday 6, Wednesday 7 and Thursday 8 October will give students the opportunity to experience lessons in subjects they may be considering for post-16 study and gain a flavour of life at Beacon Academy Sixth Form.
Bookings for the Taster Sessions will open on Saturday 26 September.
We encourage students and families to attend our Open Event to find out more about the courses available before making their choices.

Sixth Form Induction
Our tailored transition programme from Year 11 to Year 12 ensures that our students are well-prepared for a successful start to Sixth Form.
Our Sixth Form Induction Day for all Year 11 students applying to Beacon Academy Sixth Form takes place in the summer term, once exams have concluded.
Choosing the right course combination is vitally important. From Year 11 onwards, we provide personalised support to help students to research their options carefully and find their pathway. We take great care throughout this process to explore the best options for our students and we like to be as flexible as possible, to ensure a student’s individual programme is right for them.
Our induction day for all applicants, held at the end of the exam period in June, is designed to give students a taste of the courses they have chosen and to help them to find out more about Sixth Form life. Students may change their subject choices at any point in the application process, provided the combination of subjects fits within our curriculum blocks.
Whether you are new to Beacon Academy or joining us from our Year 11, you will find a welcoming, supportive, challenging Sixth Form, where you will be given every opportunity to achieve your ambitions.
