Exams and Revision

Private Exam Candidates

We are currently accepting private candidates for the Summer 2026 exam series.

We accept private candidate entries for written papers only.For this reason, we always advise HE students to follow the IGCSE route for English Language and Science as normal GCSE's in these subjects involve an NEA component - Non-Examined Component, Spoken Language for English and practical’s for science.   We cannot accommodate these. The IGCSE's offer written papers only and are exactly equivalent to GCSE's. 

Most other subjects can be taken with any of the major exam boards - AQA, EDEXCEL, OCR, WJEC and CIE.  Beacon Academy can only offer EDEXCEL French and German GCSE’s.  Tutors and Exams will probably be able to help with other languages - Private Candidate Exam Centre - AQA - EDEXCEL - OCR - Cambridge

Most external students at Beacon follow the IGCSE route with either EDEXCEL or CIE, there is a wealth of information on their websites.

Fees

GCSE/GCE

Exam Entry fee plus an Admin Fee of £110 per paper

(i.e.) Maths GCSE 1MA1/1F, has 3 papers, admin fee = £330)
MFL Language Speaking Tests £175 GCSE, £250 A Level
Exam Clash Supervision £25 per hour
Transferred Candidate Fee £100 admin fee plus £15 per hour invigilation
Amendment Fees to tier of entry After 21 April, the fee will be exam board entry fee

Completing the Application Form

After your initial enquiry, an entry form will then be emailed to you detailing the fees.  If you accept this, please complete the form and return it to kcappuccini@beacon-academy.org along with a copy of your Photo ID.  Once this is received an invoice will be sent from our Finance Department.

It is your responsibility to ensure that you register for the correct exams.  Before registering for any exams, you are strongly advised to look at the relevant specification (syllabus) and other related information on the exam boards’ website(s).

When you receive your Statement of Entry, you must check it very carefully to make sure that you are registered for the correct exams.

You will also need to ensure that you enter the correct tiers (Foundation or Higher) if applicable to your subject. 

Omission of any data which results in additional charges from exam boards will be payable. 

It is essential that the UCI number is provided by candidates.   If you are unsure of your UCI number, please contact your previous school’s Exams Officer. If this is your first examination and you do not have a UCI number, we will register you with a UCI which you will need to use for all examination going forward.

You must provide photographic ID i.e. Passport or Driving License.

Access arrangements

Learners with access arrangements must provide full details of the arrangements required at the point of applying. This does not guarantee access arrangements approval.  Further communication on this will follow in due course. Consideration will be given to any access arrangements or reasonable adjustments that may need to be put in place. Where appropriate, the centre will lead on the required processes in identifying the need for, requesting and implementing access arrangements.

Deadline for refunds

Refunds, less £50 admin fee, are possible if entries are withdrawn before the exam board refund deadlines. 

Other information

All exams will take place at our sixth form centre, please note parking is not available on this site.  Candidates should arrive 20 minutes before the start of the exam and meet at the meeting point, this will be clearly visible from the signage.  Morning exams start at 9am and afternoon exams at 2pm (unless advised otherwise).

Photo ID must be bought to each exam and shown to the invigilator.

Mobile phones must not be bought to the exam as we cannot store them securely away from the exam room.
