Subject: Clarification regarding Tutor Time on Friday 7 November 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
We are aware of concerns raised on social media regarding Friday’s Tutor Time. We want to take this opportunity to clarify the messages shared and to reassure you of our unwavering commitment to the wellbeing and safety of all students.
The messages were designed to help and support students to understand key terms such as “refugee”, “asylum seeker”, “immigrant” and “peaceful protest", providing information about the right to peaceful protest, and how they can explore these issues and form their own opinions without conflict, in line with our school values: manners, acceptance, respect and kindness.
As a school, our role is to safeguard and educate all students and to help them navigate all situations with empathy, open-mindedness and respect. We do not instruct students to take specific actions but instead guide them to consider multiple perspectives around them and respond with care and understanding. This is central to creating a respectful and inclusive school environment.
We are aware that some misinformation has circulated online, and we would like to clarify the following:
- The safety and wellbeing of our students remain our highest priority.
- Students were not instructed to approach or interact with any individuals arriving in the area. No such directive was given.
- The messages were carefully reviewed to ensure they were factual (based on the Government factsheet), non-political, age-appropriate, balanced and aligned with our safeguarding responsibilities.
We recognise that the wider situation has been marked by a lack of clear, detailed information from national and local authorities. This has understandably led to uncertainty and concern within our community. We are actively monitoring developments and remain in close contact with relevant agencies to ensure we are informed and prepared to respond appropriately.
Safeguarding our students is central to every aspect of our school. As always at this time of year, we remind students and parents of the importance of ensuring safety and wellbeing. These messages are reinforced by our year group teams. We have advised students to speak to a trusted adult with any concerns or questions about anything they may hear or be worried about.
We appreciate your feedback and encourage you to reach out directly to the school if you have any questions or concerns by email: enquiries2025@beacon-academy.org.
We remain committed to working in partnership with our families to support all members of our school community.
Thank you for your continued support.
