Year 8 French trip to Normandy

Published 2/06/2026

Year 8 students of French spent 5 days on a French immersion trip to La Grand’ Ferme in Normandy.  We were joined for the stay by an animateur and Paris St.Germain fan, Kellian, who spoke only French with our students.

Students enjoyed a wide-range of activities during the stay including a town trail in French around Avranches, a visit to a goat farm and a market to buy lunch for a picnic by the castle in Caen.  Thrills were had at Festyland, a small theme park near Caen.  The highlight for many was the walk across the bay to Mont St Michel.

Despite the soaring temperatures, students’ resilience was amazing as they joined in the evening activities including the eating of the snails during our soirée française as well as enjoying the space that La Grand’ Ferme had to offer.

Our visit concluded with a visit to the DDay Wings Museum before our return home.  Well done to the students for getting involved enthusiastically in everything, we hope that you have created some fantastic memories and learnt some more French!

Thank you to the teachers who gave up their time to accompany the trip:  Mr Cryle, Ms Reigler, Ms Webb and Ms Sherry.
