Icelandic Teachers Visit Beacon Academy

Published 14/05/2026

Staff and students at Beacon Academy were delighted to welcome a group of 22 teachers from SSAT Snælandsskóli in Iceland, as part of an international visit to share best practice in teaching and learning.

The visit provided a fantastic opportunity for colleagues to showcase Beacon Academy’s approach to high-quality teaching, strong pastoral care and positive school culture, while also learning from the insights and experiences of our Icelandic visitors.

Throughout the day, visitors spent time observing lessons, meeting staff and students and gaining a sense of school life at Beacon. The visit provided an opportunity to demonstrate our shared values of manners, acceptance, respect and kindness, and how our students strive to make their MARK every day.

Reflecting on the visit, Deputy Headteacher, Zoe James, said:

“It was a real Team Beacon effort, with so many colleagues generously giving up their time to welcome our visitors and share their expertise. Our guests were particularly impressed by the manners, respect and diligence of our young people, and by the level of knowledge and professionalism of our staff.”

We are incredibly proud to showcase Beacon Academy to an international audience and to continue building connections that enrich our school community.
