Beacon Swimming Team Sussex Qualifying September 2025 (1)

Some of the Year 7, 8 and 9 boys in our Beacon Academy Swimming Team attended the Sussex qualifying round of the English Schools Secondary Team Championships on Wednesday. The teams swam really well. We were really proud of how they all supported each other and we were impressed with some fantastic swims!

Our intermediate boys' team (Years 9 and 10) took the bronze medals for an outstanding performance in the 4x50m freestyle relay. This was especially strong as all of the swimmers are in Year 9 and were racing teams of boys a year older. This team also finished fifth in the 4x50m medley relay.

Our junior team (Years 7 and 8) finished a very impressive 4th in both the freestyle and medley relays.

Our teams for the event:

  • Year 9 boys: Bertie, Jago, Noah & Ollie.
  • Year 7 and 8 boys: Charlie, Finn, Harrison & Toby.

Thanks to Mr Cottrell for supporting the swimming team and for making all of the school arrangements.

Thanks also to Beacon Swimming Club for their support in preparing the team and organising a team training session.

Later this month, the English Schools Swimming Association will announce which teams have progressed to the National final, to be held at the Sandwell Aquatic Centre in Birmingham next month. This was the venue for the Commonwealth Games in 2022. The fastest 24 teams in each age group across England will be selected: fingers crossed!
