School Games Gold Mark Award
We are delighted to announce that Beacon Academy has achieved the School Games INSERT LEVEL Mark Award for the 2024/25 academic year.
The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
We are extremely proud of our students for their dedication to all aspects of school sport and local inter-school competitions, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.
As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.
North Wealden School Games Organiser and Beacon Cluster School Sports Coordinator, Mrs Lewis, said,
“Special thanks to the whole PE department who go above and beyond to provide the best offer for our students! Many secondary schools no longer engage in this Youth Sports Trust Programme as sustaining two hours of curriculum PE, good quality leadership and a varied curricular and extra-curricular programme is incredibly difficult, especially as it is evidence based. The criteria are very high, and we are very proud to have achieved an inspiring level of the award."
We look forward to applying once again in 2026!
