Accelerated Reader: monitoring your child's independent reading progress

Accelerated Reader: monitoring your child's independent reading progress

All students in Years 7 and 8 at Beacon Academy are enrolled on a programme called ‘Accelerated Reader’ which enables their independent reading progress to be monitored.

Parents and carers can help students to improve their reading by supporting them with reading and quizzing at home. The English department have recorded a narrated presentation to explain everything you need to know about ‘Accelerated Reader’ and how it calculates a student’s reading age. The video is accessible via our Reading for Pleasure web page and our YouTube channel.

Competition Time!

Between now and 19th April, the English department are holding a reading competition. The winner will be the student who has most exceeded their individual reading target. The prize is an afternoon tea for two from a local bakery delivered straight to your door.
